The Sprint

5K, 20 Obstacles

5K that will change your life. The Spartan Sprint is the perfect distance for first-time racers starting their Spartan journey, or for returning racers looking to beat their last finisher time.

The Sprint is the first step to earning a Spartan Trifecta.

Get ready for 5K and 20 obstacles on rugged terrain. There will be smiles and struggles along the way as you earn something to be proud of. The Sprint is a short distance race, but it’s full of challenges. Every time you run a Sprint you’ll push yourself a little harder - so it never gets easier, you just get stronger.

Returning Spartans regularly use the Sprint to test their speed and agility, while most newbies see it as the perfect introduction to the sport of Obstacle Course Racing.

Expect to be challenged and surprised. We like to keep you on your toes by delivering a unique course at each venue. You’ll conquer Spartan’s signature obstacles throughout the course, and finish in epic fashion jumping over fire in the festival area. Each obstacle will test your strength and willpower in different and challenging ways.

We have different heats to challenge any level of athlete. Take it at your own pace and have fun with your team in the Open race category, or experience fierce competition in the Elite and Age Group categories. There is a Spartan experience for all skill levels. No matter what, you’ll finish knowing you accomplished something great, and retain bragging rights for years to come.

We're not going to lie, you'll have to earn this stuff. No participation medals here. No excuses. There's a 5K obstacle course race between you and that finish line. You're going to have to give us your best. When you cross that finish line though, we're going to reward you with high fives, athletic recovery fuel, and some great finisher SWAG. You’ll get a Spartan Sprint finisher athletic shirt, a Sprint lanyard and medal, a TRIFECTA wedge (bringing you one step closer to your TRIFECTA medal), free professional photos (available post race), race performance statistics and unlimited bragging rights.

Choose from three Registration Categories

The Spartan Starting Line is unique. Instead of one big wave like a marathon, groups of Spartan racers take off every 15 minutes throughout the day. When signing up for a Spartan Sprint, choose from three registration categories:

  • ELITE:

    • The most competitive category, the Elite Heat is split between Male and Female racers. These are the first two start times of the day, usually 7:30 and 7:45am. Racers in the Elite Heat are eligible for Elite rankings. For more info, see the Elite Category FAQ.

    • After the Elite heats take off, it's time for Age Group. Racers will only compete against racers in the same age bracket (and gender based on heat capacity) and each bracket will have a designated start time. The top three finishers in each age group receive awards. For more info, see the Age Group Category FAQ.
  • OPEN:

    • The Open Category is for all skill levels and teamwork is encouraged. No prizes are awarded for these start times. There are two time blocks that make up the Open Category. The Morning time block takes place immediately after Age Group, generally between 8:45AM-12:45PM (but fluctuates depending on capacity). The Afternoon time block directly follows the Morning. These heats typically start at 1:00PM and go until the last heat of the day. Racers are assigned a specific start time 10 days prior to race day.

All Finishers Receive

  • Spartan Sprint Finisher Shirt
  • Spartan Sprint Finisher Medal
  • Spartan Sprint TRIFECTA Wedge
  • Free professional photos (available online after race)
